John Maniscalco
JOHN MANISCALCO | FOUNDING PRINCIPAL AND DESIGN DIRECTOR
John is the Founding Principal and Design Director of jmA. His work divines essential characteristics of place, composing space, light, and materiality to reframe and reveal the inhabitant’s unique relationship to their environment, redefining the language of contextualism and site-specific architecture within diverse communities.
Raised in New Jersey, he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University. He has practiced architecture in San Francisco for 35 years, acting as project designer for a wide range of projects and scales, including master-planning, commercial office buildings, academic buildings, civic centers, transportation complexes, and wineries, creating his own firm to focus on habitation and residential based work.
Since founding jmA in 2000, he oversees all phases of design and construction on jmA projects from conception to completion. With a particular focus on the development of unique, site-specific, client-centric solutions, the firm has built a broad portfolio of projects throughout San Francisco and the larger Bay Area, Coastal and Wine Regions, Tahoe, the Mountain West, coastal New England, and Costa Rica.
The firm's work has received numerous design honors and has been prominently featured in a wide range of regional, national, and international publications.
